The house to which Sam retired (I have a great reverence for Sam, as you can probably tell) was/is called "The Steamboat House", as for some reason (something to find out!) it was built in the general shape of a steamboat. It's still there and is a museum. A Houston restauranteur, also a Sam fan, had a huge collection of Texana, and no place to house it. He built a new restaurant out on the Beltway called "The Steamboat House Restaurant", also in the general shape of the Steamboat house, and eating there is like eating in a museum (the food is excellent, too, and not unreasonably priced for what you get). It's where I take all out of town visitors....maybe I'll do lunch up there soon and take pics of the collection. The wait staff is trained, and you just point to an item and they tell you the history of it. I was 11, and it was just my brother and I, our two nearest-in-age cousins, and our grandparents. Great memories from that trip, including my first airplane ride and riding Space Mountain (having been warned by friends about how scary it was) and feeling a sense of accomplishment at not chickening out. I'm not sure my grandparents realized what they were getting into with four preteen boys on that trip.Jim Harringtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13328610110476810019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2530638312241511336.post-81839938206808095722013-08-03T13:33:38.243-05:002013-08-03T13:33:38.243-05:00I'm tagging all 3 of you!I'm tagging all 3 of you!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06584588658233756298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2530638312241511336.post-42446286578684314872013-08-03T12:39:54.676-05:002013-08-03T12:39:54.676-05:00I'm just amazed that you could come up with 50...I'm just amazed that you could come up with 50 things. I would have a hard time doing that. As for your three states, you need to fly to Portland, OR, and do a tour of the Wilamette Valley wineries. Then on to Seattle (you have to drive there up the Oregon coast), where you board a cruise ship for Alaska. I one trip, you will complete the list.KBeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02749986838867446338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2530638312241511336.post-89472090748956279072013-08-03T12:34:22.751-05:002013-08-03T12:34:22.751-05:00Interesting. Oh, and because it takes better pictures than my iPhone.

As for dogs taking jaunts: My old Shades used to go off on her own, given half a chance. This was the very well-trained obedience dog. I would call her and she would turn off the hearing aids.

But let me get in the van and say, "Wanna go for a ride?" and there she would be!

Another dog, Hailey, would do the same. I well remember the first time that she responded when I called her. I lavished her with praise and dog cookies. From then on, she was much more likely to respond.Baumbastichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08869910919487046534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2530638312241511336.post-1117980624473999502013-07-21T22:11:54.056-05:002013-07-21T22:11:54.056-05:00Do you remember the "Time Heals" two-par...Do you remember the "Time Heals" two-parter I mentioned? Her grandchildren got it for her three years ago so that she could watch the Braves on MLB.

Hardly a day goes by that I'm not on the phone with her trouble-shooting problems with the Roku. Next year I'm going to get her DirecTV and the subscription to MLB Extra Innings. To heck with cable. The only reason we've kept her on cable is for her internet service (you can't get their internet service without being subscribed to their TV service). At this point, the only reason she needs internet service is for the Roku or to check the Braves score on the computer when the Roku isn't working.KBeauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02749986838867446338noreply@blogger.com
